More Than 250 Dogs Lost After 4th of July

Hundreds of pets are lost in metro Phoenix still lost after July 4th weekend.

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control found more than 250 animals on the streets on July 4th and 5th. Many of these pets slipped out of the house or yard during Independence Day celebrations. Lose your pet? Shelter staff urge you to check all shelters in metro Phoenix, post flyers and check sites such as Craigslist or Facebook. Groups on Facebook help put pet owners in touch with their lost pets… search for “Straydar” and “Lost Dogs of Arizona”. “If you’ve found a dog and can safely confine him (or) her, you can call our shelter and we will send an Animal Control Officer to pick the animal up,” said Melissa Gable, Public Information Officer at Maricopa County Animal Care and Control. “You can also bring the dog to either (of) our Phoenix locations.” There is no fee to turn in a stray dog.

Lose a pet? Check a Maricopa County Animal Care and Control shelter every two days. Shelters are located in Phoenix and Mesa and are open from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. View a list of shelters here.
