Organ Stop Pizza donated the most to the ‘Christmas in July’ food drive last year, and hope to do it again.
When you walk into Organ Stop Pizza in Mesa Ariz., you know you’ve encountered something special. The name itself is a standout, and makes sense once entering their doors. It’s a pizza joint centered around a pipe organ. Organ Stop Pizza happens to home the largest organ in the world, which is valued around $5 million, The Wurlizer theater organ was built for the Denver Theatre in the 1920s. After the depression hit, people rarely went to the theater and the organ sat unused, which caused a lot of damage. Fast forward to 1975, and the refurbished organ was installed at Organ Stop Pizza. Just imagine what it’s like to hear Christmas music on this massive instrument, along with sights of snowflakes and Christmas trees, and you can see how this place goes all out for United Food Bank’s ‘Christmas in July,’ food drive. When a customer brings in two nonperishable food items or makes a cash donation, they received a 10 percent discount on their bill. Organ Stop Pizza has been doing ‘Christmas in July’ for five years, and last year, the Christmas spirit of giving paid off. They won top business with the most donations and hope to do the same this year.
