Instagram to hide likes for some U.S. users

PHOENIX- Instagram has announced they will start hiding likes for some U.S. posts.

In theory, this allows Instagram users to focus more on the quality of content shared, rather than simply the number of likes. Instagram hopes this will promote healthier social media habits.

In fact, Instagram’s CEO Adam Mosseri believes hiding likes will help people spend their energy connecting rather than breaking each other down.

“We will do things that mean people use Instagram less if we think that they keep people safe for generally create a healthier environment. And I think have to be willing to do that.”

Adam Mosseri said to CBS News

This has already taken effect in seven other countries including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Ireland, Italy, Japan and New Zealand.

With the change, the posts will appear like thing on your feed:

Many celebrities and social media influencers have publicly expressed their dislike of the change, including rapper Nicki Minaj.

While other celebrities, like Kim Kardashian West, have endorsed the change, noting that it might be beneficial.
