PHOENIX – Hilton is taking one giant leap towards hospitality in space by having their DoubleTree cookies be the first ever cookies baked in space.
Astronaut food has always had a bad reputation. If cookies become a staple space food, we may just have to book a trip to Mars! Who doesn’t love a warm chocolate chip cookie?
To accomplish this mission, Hilton has to look at microgravity and how this will affect the texture of their cookie recipe. According to NASA, microgravity is the “condition in which people or objects appear to be weightless“. With this in mind, it is unclear whether their cookies will rise and have a fluffy texture or fall just a bit flat from the target.
The hotel chain is teaming up with Zero G and NanoRacks to create a space oven perfect for cookie making. This appliance paired with Hilton’s special cookie dough recipe will hopefully come together to make space history!
Plus, they have a real astronaut on the team! Mike Massimino, a former astronaut for NASA, brings his knowledge of living on the International Space Station.
What will happen when cookies travel to the great frontier? Only time and science will tell us. Until then, you can try one of DoubleTree by Hilton cookies yourself here!
