Dino-Takeover at the Phoenix Zoo

Sixty-five million years after roaming the Earth, dinosaurs have arrived at the Phoenix Zoo.

More than 20 dinosaur creatures arrived early Monday at the Phoenix Zoo for the soon-to-open ‘Dinosaurs in the Desert’ exhibit opening to the public on October 6. The structures include large and small dinosaurs from the short Diabloceratops to a 5,000-pound Tyrannosaurus Rex. Many of the structures are built to scale, like the Utah Raptor, that when alive grew to more than 20-feet-long. Nineteen of the sculptures are animatronic, meaning they’ll move, roar, and one will even shoot water. The dinosaurs have a local tie-in as well. Each dinosaur is painted to represent different animals native to Arizona.

The grand opening of the exhibit will be October 6-8 and will cost $4 for Phoenix Zoo members and $5 for the general public.
