Arizona is planning on using a new system to weigh big rigs.
The Arizona Department of Transportation is planning on using a new automated system to weigh commercial trucks coming into the state. The system will be used for trucks entering through entry points at the Utah, New Mexico, and California border. When approaching the entry points, the system would weigh the trucks, as well as check the safety status and credentials of the vehicle. Registered vehicles would be able to pass through the points without stopping. However, if the system detects an issue with the weight or paperwork, the system will ask drivers to stop. There are currently three rest areas with similar systems in the state.
