AZ Bill Could Solve the Coyotes’ Stadium Problem

Arizona committee passed a bill for a possible new arena.

A committee in Arizona Senate passed a bill on Tuesday that would help fund for new Arizona Coyotes arena. Senate Bill 1149 still needs the senate’s vote, but Senator Bob Worsley has been a strong advocator for the Coyotes, as this is his second attempt to provide money for a new arena. The stadium is expected to cost $395 million, if passed, the bill will provide a public-private partnership to help share costs. The team will spend $170 million, $170 will be raised through bonds, and $55 million will be provided by the city.

ASU was going to be the home of the new arena but plans fell through and now new locations are on the table. Coyotes extend their lease at the Gila River Arena in Glendale through the 2017-18 season as the possible new arena location remains undetermined.
