America’s Most Expensive Home Sells for $238 Million

Central Park

The most expensive home in the country just sold for $238 million in New York City.

The four-story condo located at 220 Central Park South was purchased by hedgefunder and billionaire Ken Griffin, who also owns multi-million dollar condos in Chicago, Miami, and London, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The publication says the penthouse is one of the most expensive pieces of real estate ever sold worldwide.

Some analysts say based on its size, Griffin probably paid about $10,000 per square foot. A penthouse nearby at 15 Central Park West sold for $88 million, or $13,000 a square foot, back in 2012.

The high rise reportedly features private dining rooms, a sports club, juice bar, library, and basketball court.

Griffin’s unit comprises 24,000 square feet and takes up four floors — the 50th to the 53rd floor — of the building.

This purchase breaks the previous record for the most expensive home sale, which was set by another hedge-fund manager, Barry Rosenstein, who bought a home in the Hamptons for $137 million in 2014, The Hill reports.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Griffin has amassed a $9.6 billion fortune.
